How to look after your feet in hot weather
When the weather gets hot, we remember to grab our sunglasses, sunscreen and a cold drink… but what about our feet?
Hot weather can make our feet sweat more, increasing the risk of blisters, fungal infections, swelling and irritation.
A few simple habits can help keep them healthy and comfortable.
🌟Your feet love a daily wash! Clean them with soap and water, then dry them well — especially between your toes. Moisture left behind can become an unwanted playground for germs and fungi.
🌟If your shoes feel like mini ovens, it’s time for a change. Choose breathable shoes or sandals when appropriate. Your feet will thank you for the extra airflow.
🌟Sweaty feet? Wearing clean, moisture-wicking socks such as bamboo socks help keep your feet dry, comfortable and odor-free.
🌟Stay hydrated as dehydration can contribute to swelling and cramping.
🌟The tops of your feet are often forgotten — but they can get sunburned too. Apply sunscreen to the tops of your feet to protect your them from the sun.
Other tips you need to know:
- Avoid walking barefoot in public places like pools and locker rooms, where fungal infections are more easily spread.
- Before walking barefoot on the beach, poolside or pavement, test the surface first. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s probably too hot for your feet too! Burns can happen faster than you think.
- After a busy day, give your feet a little reward. Stretch your toes, gently massage your arches, or put your feet up for a few minutes.
- Seek medical advice if you notice severe pain, swelling or signs of heat-related illness along with foot symptoms.
🔝Tip: When purchasing your new summer shoes and sandals, please shop in the afternoon when the feet 👣 are at their largest.
Whether you’re exploring new places, dancing at a party, chasing your kids or simply enjoying a sunny afternoon, healthy feet help you enjoy every moment.
Your feet work hard every day, give them a little summer TLC!
