Knowing Our Foot Skin Properties
The skin on our feet, especially the soles, have some unique structural and functional properties particularly regarding sweat glands and overall foot skin anatomy. Moisturizing our feet is more important than many people realize.
The soles of our feet contain one of the highest concentrations of eccrine sweat glands in the entire body. Eccrine sweat glands help cool the body and provides moisture to reduce friction whilst walking or running.
Hydration of our feet plays a critical role in managing and reducing frictional forces especially on the soles where the skin frequently interacts with socks, shoes and the ground.
Having dry feet increases friction which results in increasing blisters, callus build up, cracked heels even foot skin infections.
Did you know that apocrine glands (responsible for body odor) are not present in the feet?
Therefore, foot odor is not caused directly by sweat, but by bacteria breaking down sweat and dead skin cells.
