May is Foot Health Month: Healthy, Comfortable and “Summer-Ready” Feet
It’s May Foot health month 🚀 A perfect time to focus not just on foot health, but also on keeping feet looking and feeling their best as sandal season begins ☀.
Spotlight on Heel Fissures (Cracked Heels)
Open-backed shoes and dry heat can cause the skin on the heels to thicken, split and sometimes become painful!
- Moisturize daily with urea-based or deeply hydrating creams
- Avoid walking barefoot on hard surfaces
- Use a gentle foot file 1–2 times a week (not aggressively)
- Seek professional care if cracks are deep or painful
Avoiding Calluses the Right Way
Calluses form as a natural response to pressure and friction, but excessive buildup can look unsightly and lead to discomfort.
Tips to prevent and manage calluses:
-
Wear properly fitted, supportive shoes to reduce pressure points
-
Avoid thin, flat flip-flops for long periods
-
Use cushioned insoles if needed
-
Moisturize regularly to keep skin supple
-
File thickened skin gently—never cut calluses yourself
Ensure to not over pumice or file the skin so inflammation risk is kept to a minimum.
🌟In keeping your feet “pretty” and healthy, think of foot care as part of your regular self-care routine — not just a cosmetic extra.
